New for Hawaii Educators! Enter now to win a free trip for your students to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Click here for more details. The Polynesian Cultural Center is pleased to offer a variety of educational programs and materials that provide an introduction to Polynesia and a range of customized experiences for children — either as part of an organized school field trip or as accompanied by their parents. For many years the Cultural Center's educational program for school keiki (children) was called Junior Guides. We recently enhanced the program, which is now called Polynesian Explorer. For example, the Center has compiled a curriculum kit to help teachers prepare their children before visiting the PCC as well as providing appropriate follow-up activities. The Polynesian Cultural Center also works with education-oriented adult groups, such as Elderhostel and visiting university classes. Brigham Young University Hawaii's Center for Instructional Technology and Outreach (CITO), which is adjacent to the PCC, has worked with many such groups over the past 40-plus years, and even offers a course where visiting teachers can earn in-service credits. Contact CITO (cito@byuh.edu) at BYU-Hawaii for more information. |
